The jury heard competing accounts of the confrontation. AP reports that most trial witnesses were students who described a heated exchange over Anthony's refusal to leave a tent that belonged to Metcalf's team. AP also reports that prosecutors argued Anthony provoked Metcalf, while the defense argued Anthony acted in fear and self-defense after physical contact.
