Terms

These terms explain how CultureUp handles site use, submissions, corrections, supporter payments, sponsorship, advertising, and editorial separation.

Use of CultureUp.us

CultureUp.us preserves Indigenous Black memory through public records, land, churches, cemeteries, music, media, civic institutions, family continuity, local archives, and source-led public history.

  • Evergreen guides should not be treated as breaking news, private proof, legal advice, or live event coverage.
  • Readers should check content labels such as Feature Story, Source Trail, Public Memory, Music & Media, Correction, and Priority Dossier.
  • CultureUp may update, remove, or revise site materials as editorial systems and reader services evolve.

Submissions

Story tips, community stories, media submissions, event leads, contributor interest, and corrections are reviewed before publication. Submission does not guarantee publication.

  • Do not submit private personal information, copyrighted media you do not own, or unsupported claims about real people.
  • By submitting material, contributors should only share work they have the right to share.
  • Submissions may be edited, declined, held for review, or routed to a correction process.
  • Sensitive claims require source review before publication.

Editorial review and corrections

CultureUp separates public records, source trails, editorial interpretation, community submissions, and media features. Corrections should be visible when a factual, credit, date, source, caption, or attribution issue is reviewed.

  • Interpretation should be labeled and should not be presented as reported fact.
  • Public claims should include sources or attribution.
  • Political, medical, financial, legal, or public-safety claims need extra review.
  • Correction requests should include the page, issue, proposed correction, and supporting source.

Support and paid features

CultureUp routes supporters and sponsors through CultureUp-owned account pages before any hosted payment or billing handoff. Sponsor intake remains policy-gated, and CultureUp may run clearly labeled ad inventory through a configured advertising partner.

  • Public supporter and sponsor calls to action should begin on CultureUp account pages before any hosted checkout opens.
  • Do not treat Sponsor Intake or Partner Intake as a contract, invoice, sponsor acceptance, or editorial assignment.
  • Do not submit card, bank, tax, or financial account details through CultureUp forms; hosted checkout and billing are handled by the payment provider after the CultureUp account step.
  • Support and sponsorship are not represented as tax-deductible unless CultureUp publishes approved legal language saying so.
  • Voluntary support and sponsorship payments are generally non-refundable except for duplicate charges, technical billing errors, sponsor-policy declines before placement, or legally required reversals.
  • Receipt, subscription, cancellation, and billing questions should be handled through CultureUp billing review or the support-help path.
  • Advertising and sponsorship placements must stay labeled and separate from editorial coverage.
  • Ad placements must remain clearly labeled and must not be represented as editorial content.
  • Google Analytics 4 may measure aggregate page activity and CTA interactions, but analytics do not create editorial influence, sponsor guarantees, identity claims, legal claims, ancestry certification, or contributor approval.
  • Sponsors may support surfaces, series, tools, newsletters, or learning resources, but they do not control editorial conclusions.
  • New analytics, payment, newsletter, supporter-record, or visitor-data systems require a privacy and terms review before they are activated.
